SDMHA - Communicable Disease Plan UPDATE

Sep. 23, 2021

SDMHA Families,

Health Protection & Environmental Services of Island Health has provided clarification on the Gatherings and Events Order to fitness facility operators on Vancouver Island.

 Specifically applicable to Minor Hockey:

  • Arenas are exempt from the Order (and from proof of vaccination requirements) if they are not being used for adult sport.
  • For child and youth programs, proof of vaccination requirements do not apply to participants or to coaches or other adults overseeing the program, or to spectators (unless tickets are required and there are more than 50 spectators).
  • Spectators at sporting events that do not have tickets are not required to show proof of vaccination regardless of number.

This means that SDMHA is no longer required to ask for proof of vaccination or limit the number of spectators attending.

Please see the updated Communicable Disease Plan or the SDMHA website for further information.

Thank you,

SDMHA Executive
