Sooke Minor Hockey Screening Process
Sooke and District Minor Hockey Association requires all coaches, managers, safety and general bench staff to have a criminal record check done every 3 years by Oct 31st providing these are removed from the roster and are not allowed in the dressing room or participating with the children in any way.
Sooke and District Minor Hockey Association requires any parent that enters a dressing room to provide a current criminal record check every 3 years. All criminal record checks are provided to the president, and managers monitor who has done their criminal record check and who enters the dressing room.
All executive members are also required to do a criminal record check every 3 years.
Sooke Minor Hockey Association also implemented a new policy in 2014-2015 that all novice parents would be required to do respect in sport. VIAHA has implemented that respect in sport be taken for all parents or guardians with kids in hockey. This is an online course that can be accessed thru this link. Please be careful not to do the coaches RIS by mistake. This must be completed by Oct 30th or your child will not be able to play. This online course currently lasts for 4 years once completed. Costs incurred are at your expense.
Respect in Sport For Team Staff (Rostered Staff)
Certification through Respect In Sport will be the equivalent to certification received when taking a SpeakOut! course. RiS is an on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying in sport. The on-line course curriculum is broken into six (6), 30 minute modules hours to complete and includes audio/visual presentations, quizzes and printable handouts. Another beneficial feature of the program is that it does not need to be done all at once, it can be completed at your leisure.
